Onion Plants
These varieties start the bulbing process when the day-length reaches 10-12 hours. Since they are planted primarily in the south during the winter or early spring months they will take approximately 110 days until they mature. If planted in northern states in late spring, they will mature in just 75 days but produce smaller bulbs. The earlier you plant them, the larger they will get.

White Bermuda
veg_white_bermuda.jpg
White Bermuda Heirloom variety our great-grandfather grew in 1898 when he planted some of the first onions in the Bermuda colony by our farm. The seed was brought over from the Canary Islands and quickly put our area on the map as one of the largest onion growing regions with this sweet, flat onion. Great for green onions as it produces a nice, white, large scallion in just 30 days. Open pollinated, stores approximately one month, matures in 95 days, flat, white.

Yellow Granex (Vidalia)
veg_granex_yellow.jpg
Yellow Granex This is one of the hybrid varieties that is approved to be planted in Vidalia, Georgia. This cross between the 1015Y and the old Bermuda onions produces semi-flat onions with rounded shoulders. Unfortunately, what makes an onion sweet is the same as what makes an onion not store well: high water content. This variety won’t store for much more than one month but it is as sweet as an apple. Hybrid, stores approximately once month, matures in 100 days, semi-flat, yellow.

After harvest, this onion allows you to add flavor and color to any salad. Open pollinated, stores approximately two months, matures in 110 days, flat, red.
